Chip Seal

A tough, great-traction surface for long driveways and rural roads, at a fraction of the cost of new asphalt.

Why It Matters

Big surface, smaller budget

Chip seal sprays hot asphalt binder and locks in a layer of stone aggregate, a fresh wearing surface for long driveways and rural lanes where new asphalt would cost a fortune.

Great grip, great value

The textured finish grips well in Idaho rain and ice, looks like natural stone, and costs a fraction of new asphalt with low maintenance for years.

Our Chip Seal

How chip seal works

It’s a proven method used on roads for decades. We spray hot asphalt emulsion at a measured rate, then spread clean, washed stone chip and roll it in while the binder is fresh.

Locked in and swept clean

Rollers seat the stone into one tough, unified surface, and we sweep the loose stone after it sets, leaving a clean finish with great grip.

Our Process

What a chip-seal job looks like

Prep

We grade and clean the surface so the binder bonds to a sound base.

Spray binder

Hot asphalt emulsion goes down at a measured, even rate.

Spread chip

Stone aggregate is applied and rolled in immediately while the binder is fresh.

Roll & sweep

We compact the surface, then sweep loose stone once it sets.

FAQ

Questions we hear a lot

Should I choose chip seal or new asphalt?

For long driveways and rural roads, chip seal gives you a durable surface for far less money. Asphalt is better when you need a smooth, high-traffic surface.

How long does chip seal last in Idaho?

Many years with light maintenance, depending on traffic. When it’s worn, it can be re-chipped instead of fully replaced.

What does chip seal look like?

A natural stone finish, available in different aggregate colors. It has great curb appeal compared with plain gray pavement.

When's the best time to chip seal?

Warm, dry weather, roughly late spring through early fall in Idaho, so the binder cures properly.

Will loose stones come off?

A little at first. We sweep after it sets, and within a few days the surface is clean and stable.
